WHAT WE ARE DOING
- Voucher Program - The voucher program has helped hundreds of DeKalb County residents with the cost of spaying or neutering their pets. The usual cost of spay/neuter for voucher recipients will be $25 per cat and $35 per dog with the rest of the veterinarian charge being covered by the voucher. Call (615) 464-6738 for information.
- ‘Snip & Tip’ - This program, an initiative of the Humane Association of Wilson County, hopes to stabilize the feral cat population, improve the health of the population and eventually reduce the number of feral cats in DeKalb county. One weekend every month, volunteers set traps, trap feral cats and carry them to Lebanon where they are spayed or neutered and mark them as “fixed” by "tipping an ear and then carried back and released in their territory. Trapped feral cats that are sick or injured are humanely euthanized. The program needs donations for more live traps and volunteers are needed to trap the feral cats and to transport them to and from Lebanon.
- Abandoned Animals - The HSDC receives many calls about abandoned animals. We are an all-volunteer organization with no shelter facilities. We can help with food and some supplies but simply cannot come and pick up the animal. If you choose to foster an animal left on your property, we can help you by providing assistance with supplies, showing the animal at Adoption Days and by photographing and advertising the animal on this web site and on both www.1-800-save-a-pet.com and www.petfinder.com. Animals not adopted on Adoption Days must be picked up by you at 1 p.m. Call (615) 464-6738 for more information.
- Abused or Neglected Animals - The Humane Society will help in investigating reports of abused or neglected animals and will prosecute when necessary.
- Educational Programs - We are making every effort to educate the public about pet overpopulation and responsible pet ownership. DVD programs are available for educational purposes. If you would like a volunteer to speak to a small group or classroom or would like more information about the DVDs available, call (615) 464-6738.
